Social Networking Services: Favorites

For my last week for Social Networking Services, I focused on groups that I enjoyed the most from each platform: Reddit, Twitter, and Tik Tok. For Reddit, these groups include: Oddly Satisfying , Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and No such thing as stupid questions.

Searching for entertaining posts, I found this hamster going through a multilayer maze. I found it very amusing to watch to the point that I watched it multiple times. It was also interesting to see the Fanta product placement throughout the video. This group has become one of my favorites because there’s an abundance of amusing content to watch.

Marvel has always sparked my interest, so naturally I spend a lot of time on this community. This post caught my attention because the Avengers as children reminded me of how I’ve grown up watching Marvel. It made me think about my childhood and reminisce.

Looking for interesting things while I was bored, I found this post rather interesting. I didn’t know dogs see better in the dark than humans nor that color blind people see better than non-color blind people. No Stupid Questions has many random things I learn, so I enjoy spending time in this community.

For Twitter, my favorite groups were fast food companies such as Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Dominos. I enjoyed these groups the most because of their responsiveness and interactiveness. They are also relevant to me right now because of the corona virus.

Searching for sweet deals on pizza, I found it interesting that Pizza Hut had a survey for delivery options. I chose curbside delivery and was shocked to see it the lowest. During the corona epidemic, I wasn’t expecting so many people driving for carryout. Regardless, interactive content was nice to see.

As I look for more deals to save me during coronavirus, I find that Domino’s is giving 50% off on a weekend. It felt nice to see everyone coming to together to help out. Also, I have now realized the new thing is contactless drivers, as they have a form. Anyhow, finding sweet deals made me happy.

Last but not least, for Little Caesar’s I find a video in which a person is scootering away with pizza. I found it rather entertaining during my quarantine time. It gets even better because the punch line is a week of free delivery. This made me quite ecstatic.

For Tik Tok, my favorite hashtags were #perfectmeal, #photography101, and #buthaveyouseen. Throughout my short experience, I was surprised to find very entertaining content on Tik Tok.

Looking for recipes to make at home, I found this step by step video of chicken fry. The sound of the sizzling chicken and the oils bubbling made me want to go get some chicken. I’ve always enjoyed watching food cook because it makes me hungry. I’ve spent some time on this hashtag learning how to cook and has made me feel accomplished.

#Photography101 has been a hashtag I’ve spent a lot of time on. This smoke bomb shoot looked so surreal. The lights and color scheme seemed perfect, and it made me feel as if I was somewhere else. Whether for new inspiration or nostalgia, this hashtag has provided great content.

As I mindlessly look for things on #Buthaveyouseen, I find myself staring at an earth shape ball spilling what seems to be rice. Initially, I’m shocked. Soon enough, I find it to be amusing and maybe even relaxing. This emotional entanglement is one of the many entertaining times I’ve spent on #Buthaveyouseen.

Social Networking Services: Nostalgia

This week for Social Networking Services, I focused on communities that interested me the most. For Reddit, I chose to explore more deeply into BikiniBottomTwitter and Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe because how nostalgic they made me feel.

For Marvel, I thought it was rather interesting that someone found Wanda Maximoff’s fight scene in Edinburgh. It used to make feel very excited when there were movie filmings in Berkeley or San Francisco, especially when Ant Man had a scene at Sproul Plaza showing Sather Gate. Seeing someone else make these connections made me happy.

This Marvel Heroines post also caught my attention. Seeing the progression of all the women in the Marvel World made me feel inspired. I didn’t realize that there were so many different characters. It was interesting to note in the comments that people also had different opinions who should be in the middle or front. I was with the few who commented Black Widow.

On BikiniBottomTwitter, I found this post relating to coronavirus to be too funny and too relatable. The post displays the paranoria surrounding hand sanitizing and running out of toilet paper because of coronavirus. I found this post extra relatable because even at my house they passed around 1 toilet paper per person this week. Spongebob brought a lot of nostalgia to me in the past and this post gave me a great laugh.

For Tik Tok, I browsed for new hashtags to follow to find communities that interested me the most. #Petparent, #Fashionasmr, #Colorbomb sparked my interest because these hashtags made me feel nostalgic.

Browsing through #PetParent, I found a lot of videos of people doing different things with their pets. These videos made me nostalgic because I also had a puppy when I was young. A particular video I found touching is the one below in which the dad is initially opposed to the dog but later embraces it.

#Fashionasmr was another hashtag that really sparked my interest. I’ve liked fashion every since I was younger and listening to ASMR was a new interest of mine. When browsing through the hashtag, I would see ASMR sounds being applied to different fashion pieces. Seeing these two come together was a pleasant surprise.

#Colorbomb sparked my interest because there was so much color with this hashtag. Most of the posts were predominately smoke bombs shots (like below), which made me feel nostalgic because I used to photos as a photographer and smoke bombs are still something I want to do.

For Twitter, I continued to browse stories that interested me the most. The NBA and coronavirus attracted my attention because they reminded me a part of my past.

When I was browsing through the NBA stories, reading that the season was suspended was disappointing. Watching and following basketball was a part of my childhood growing up and having the season suspended made me feel as if I lost a part of myself. However, reading about different players donating money during such a difficult time was inspiring.

Reading that the coronavirus moved classes to online was upsetting because a part of me wanted to enjoy the last couples months of my senior year. It hurt even more because I couldn’t experience senior year in high school either.

Seeing this post about supermarkets brought me into reality of the severity of the coronavirus. I related to this issue because I also had difficulty buying groceries. While it’s disheartening, I am trying to stay hopeful.

Social Networking Services: New Communities

This week for Social Networking Services, I continued and found new groups and communities to interact with. For Reddit, some of the new groups I found include: BikiniBottomTwitter, OddlySatisfying , and CasualConversations.

My reaction to finding to this group was pure excitement. Having grown up watching Spongebob, seeing Bikini Bottom memes brought a lot of nostalgia. I didn’t expect to find more interesting groups after my preliminary search.

Another group that caught my attention was CasualConversations. It’s a group where you can discuss pretty much anything. Even it’s description is “The friendlier part of reddit.” I found it funny talking about grilled cheese and tomato soup, but found it nice to see many other people sharing my food cravings.

I chose to continue to interact with MarvelMemes because I found to understand its content the most. I thought the post was clever because it said Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl were leaked, but was just a picture of Mr. Fantastic and Drax. I asked, “where did she go,” but of course she’s just invisible. The post made me really excited for the tiny possibility of The Fantastic Four and Avengers being in the same movie.

NoStupidQuestions also had a lot of content I could relate to. I found this particular post funny because I also thought TikTok was just another sort of Vine but rebranded. Seeing a post reflecting my exact thoughts gave me like a WOW moment that there are other people just like me.

For Twitter, I browsed the explore section and found it stored stories into sections depending on the topic. It felt different looking for content through sections instead of groups. But I did find some interesting stories in the news section.

This story caught my attention because misinformation not coronavirus caused mass chaos. Reading through the comments, other twitter users agreed in banter that people need to be more cognizant of their information. This story shocked me that such events could happen.

While browsing the sports section, I found that they listed points of recents games, and I found that convenient. I didn’t expect to find much in the sports section because I don’t watch a lot of sports. But that was a nice relief in my exploration.

Also, I continued to interact with fast food companies. This time around I didn’t receive much comments back from companies. I did think in this post that it should have been pizza and wings instead of just of pizza.

I found this tweet relatable because I like pineapples, and it was nice to see other people who like pineapples too. I commented pineapples and ham because obviously pizza should have ham and pineapples.

For Tik Tok, I looked for new hashtags that I could follow. It was interesting to see Reddit and Twitter had more groups and sections to chose from than Tik Tok hashtags. Tik Tok had a list of its hashtags but no categories or organization with their communities. This made me feel at unease because finding communities were difficult.

One of the hashtags I started following is #gummygame. I thought it was pretty crazy to have a filter that let you play a gummy bear game. Seeing this post brought me a lot of satisfaction because it reminded me of snapchat filters.

#Perfectmeal was another hashtag that I started to follow. I liked their hashtag because they show food making videos. I’m also a big fan of macarons so seeing a bunch of macarons made pretty happy.

#Photography101 was another hashtag that I really liked. I thought it was really neat that they were doing a Star Wars themed photoshoot. It was funny that they brought along BB-8 as well. It brought me a lot of nostalgia because I used to take photos for models and companies.

Social Networking Services: First Experience

Welcome to the first blog post for social networking services. This post will focus on Reddit, Twitter, and TikTok. Reddit provided a smooth, easy experience. I browsed a section for top growing communities, subdivision of categories, and an extensive list of communities to join.

This layout provided an enjoyable and easy experience in finding communities to join. Some of the groups I really like include: board games, Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and No such thing as stupid questions. I also chose these groups because they predominantly had higher levels of interaction and engagement.

After joining groups, I asked questions and commented on other people’s posts. In the Board game group, I asked about recommendations similar to Catan because I enjoy strategy game. One user recommended Bohnanza and Space Base as good strategy expansion games. Some users provided funny references in their comments such as to the Shadow Realm in Yugioh and Soul Cliff at Vormir, so it urged me to respond. Other interactions were more mundane. I advised snacks for hiking and provided opinions on foreign foods. These discussions showed me the more utilitarian side of reddit and hope helpful it could be. Overall, my first experience with Reddit was well rounded.

Twitter was an interesting experience. I browsed the search bar hoping for communities, but it provided categories and within categories posts and people. This setback was initially unsettling because Reddit had easy communities to join. As a result, I began interacting with fast food companies due to their tendency to be responsive.

It was interesting to see these large fast food chains respond to me and how quickly they did. For instance, Pizza Hut took only 3 minutes. I did not imagine fast food chains to be that responsive.

For Little Caesars, they announced delivery, so I asked what services they provided. I was impressed with the depth of their response in addition to timeliness. They mentioned both Doordash and their own app.

For this post, I commented there should be another option in the poll a couple days after the poll finished. However, Little Caesars still responded. I was shocked to see how much content they were keeping up with in a timely manner.

For McDonalds, they referred to dipping honey in their picture. The interaction didn’t have anything too special. However, I was thrown a back that they took the time to look up my name from my profile. As a result, Twitter ultimately shocked me with its quickness and attention to detail.

Tik Tok provided some group like opportunities. I could favorites videos, hashtags, sounds, and effects. Some of the hashtags I joined include #favoritemovies, #travelbucketlist, and #buthaveyouseen. I had a more pleasant experience with hashtags on Tik Tok because when favoriting a hashtag it shows a feed of posts that I could easily scroll through.

Tik Tok was a different experience because it was more video based unlike Reddit and Twitter. I found this illusion video very cool. And apparently you should close one eye while looking at it. I was surprised to find content on that Tik Tok that I would enjoy.

Here’s me commenting can I have some pizza because as you can already tell I like pizza. I didn’t know Tik Tok had videos like Insider as some content, and it kept me entertained.

Browsing through the comments, I found it interesting that comments on Tik Tok received so many likes. On Instagram comments receive some reactions but on Tik Tok on comment above received 23k likes. This culture difference broaden my understanding of media. Ultimately, Tik Tok provided some good content that I enjoyed and had a pleasant experience.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
